Mission: The Historic Preservation Commission was established to accomplish the protection, enhancement and perpetuation of such improvements and of districts which represent or reflect elements of the City’s cultural heritage as embodied and reflected in such landmarks and historic districts.
Meeting: Scheduled meeting will be on the 4th Thursday of the Month.
Members: The Mayor shall appoint seven (7) members. Those members shall be comprised of one (1) registered architect, one (1) historian, one (1) real estate broker, one (1) Alderperson and three (3) citizens.
Tasks include:
- Effect and accomplish the protection, enhancement and perpetuation of such improvements and of districts which represent or reflect elements of the city's cultural, social, economic, political and architectural history
- Safeguard the city's historic and cultural heritage as embodied and reflected in such landmarks and historic districts
- Stabilize and improve property values
- Foster civic pride in the beauty and noble accomplishments of the past
- Protect and enhance the city's attractions to residents, tourists and visitors and serve as a support and stimulus to business and industry
- Strengthen the economy of the city
- Promote the use of historic districts and landmarks for the education, pleasure and welfare of the people of the city.
